Diversity is any collective mixture characterized by differences and similarities that are applied in pursuit of organizational objectives. The Air Force definition of diversity is very broad, as there are many aspects that contribute to the improvement of the Air Force mission. The service believes aspects of diversity include, but are not limited to: gender, race, ethnicity, age, personal life experiences, geographic background, socioeconomic background, cultural knowledge, educational background, work background, language abilities, physical abilities, philosophical and spiritual perspectives, sexual identity and orientation. Diversity also is further subdivided into demographic, cognitive, behavioral, organizational/structural and global diversity. This concept of diversity is to be tailored as specific circumstances and the law require. The Air Force pursues diversity that is aligned with the Air Force Core Values. --AF D&I Flight Plan
Inclusion is the process of creating a culture where all members of an organization are free to make their fullest contributions to the success of the group, and where there are no artificial barriers to success. A culture of inclusion unlocks the capabilities inherent in a diverse organization – enabling innovation and performance excellence far beyond what is possible in more homogeneous groups. --AF D&I Flight Plan
