Florida Guardsman receives U.S. Surgeon General's highest civilian honor

U.S. Air Force Maj. Kevin Tipton, critical care nurse practitioner, 125th Medical Group, was awarded the Surgeon General's Medallion by Vice Admiral Vivek Murphy on Sept. 18, 2023 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. The award is the nation's highest civilian honor that can be bestowed by the U.S. Surgeon General. Tipton was selected due to his service during the COVID-19 pandemic in South Florida's public hospitals. Only 42 Americans and two Airmen, to include Major Tipton, have ever received this recognition in history. (Courtesy photo)
