Command Sgt. Maj. John Sampa

Command Sgt. Maj. John Sampa, the 12th command sergeant major of the Army National Guard, stands guard to protect hate group members’ rights to freedom of speech during the James Byrd Jr. murder trial in Jasper, Texas, in the summer of 1998. Sampa now serves as the senior enlisted leader of the Army Guard in Arlington, Va.
