Airman Banjo A. Burro furloughed during Berlin Crisis call-up of 1961-62.

Airman Banjo A. Burro, the Missouri mule mascot of the 131st Fighter-Bomber Wing, was unable to accompany his unit to France and was placed on indefinite furlough to a farm near Wentzville, MO. When the unit obtained him in 1957, he was the rustic type, but quickly adapted to military life at the organization's headquarters at Lambert Field. He was recommended for promotion several times, but it was denied because of his indifference to military rules. It was this spirit of indifference which endeared him to his fellow Airmen.
