The state of Texas awards the Lone Star Distinguished Service Medal to service members who while serving with the Texas military forces, distinguished themself by exceptionally outstanding achievement or service to the state in the performance of a duty of great responsibility and the Texas Adjutant General is the approving authority for this honor.
