The radar unit of a new DAS-R -- digital airport surveillance radar – is lifted onto a newly-constructed tower at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich., Oct. 12, 2012. The new $17 million system will become operation in 2013, replacing an older system in use on the base. The new tower 94-foot tower is more than two dozen feet taller than the older, existing radar tower on the base. (Air National Guard photo by John S. Swanson)
