UPDATE: Names released of Airman killed, others missing following incident in Okinawa Published Oct. 7, 2014 By Master Sgt. Roger Parsons 116th Air Control Wing ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga -- A Robins Airman is dead and two others are still missing in Okinawa, Japan after being swept out to sea Sunday by high waves. "Our hearts go out to the 116th and 461st members and their families during this time of loss and unknown outcomes," said Col. Kevin Clotfelter, 116th ACW commander. "Please keep your thoughts and prayers of support directed toward all those affected." The body of Senior Master Sgt. James Swartz, an aerospace propulsion superintendent with the 116th Air Control Wing, Georgia Air National Guard, was recovered Sunday. Still listed as missing is Georgia Air National Guard member Master Sgt. Daniel Paschal, an aerospace propulsion craftsman with the 116th ACW, and active-duty Air Force Staff Sgt. Joshua Schoenhoff, an instrument and flight control systems specialist with the 461st Air Control Wing. "We share in the sorrow felt by these Airmen's loved ones," said Col. Henry Cyr, 461st ACW commander. "We will do all that we can to work through this tragedy together." The three Airmen were on temporary duty at Kadena Air Base and visiting the northwest coast of the island when the incident occurred. Joint search and rescue efforts conducted by the U.S. Air Force and Japanese Coast Guard are ongoing, based on weather conditions. More information will be released as it becomes available.
