CODY VISITS VIANG Published April 21, 2015 By Army Spc. Priscilla Desormeaux 51st Public Affairs Detachment ST. CROIX, U.S.Virgin Islands -- Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James A. Cody, the 17th Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, visited Airmen here Apr. 12 at the 285th Civil Engineering Squadron of the U.S. Virgin Islands Air National Guard. During Chief Cody's visit he met with all Airmen, enlisted and officers alike, taking questions and provided insight as to where the VIANG sat in the bigger picture of the Air Force. Cody also discussed some new methods that the Air Force may implement in the future to maintain the balance of Airmen on active duty and National Guard or reserve, while keeping retention in mind. Cody separately met with senior noncommissioned officers to talk about any concerns they had for the future, and guidance in current events on the national level. A major point in discussion was developmental opportunities that the Airmen could and should take advantage of in order to progress in their careers. Cody's visit came just a month after a visit from Command Chief Master Sgt. of the Air National Guard James W. Hotaling. "Our visits are complementary but not redundant," said Cody. "He focuses on things specific to the Air Guard. What I'm focused on is the broader perspective of the Air Force as a whole and how the Air National Guard fits into that." Cody also suggested that the VIANG continue in the direction they are heading by encouraging the airmen to complete necessary course work, and training to continue to be at a high level of performance. Before Cody left, he expressed his gratitude for the Airmen and their service, their families, and all that they do for the Virgin Islands.
