The Florida Air National Guard's 125th Fighter Wing received the Air Force Outstanding Unit award for the period of 1 November 2012 through 31 October 2014.

During this period the 125FW compiled nearly 7,000 flying hours and surpassed an astounding 167,853 flying hours without a class A mishap while ensuring unit forces were ready to meet the challenges of peacetime air sovereignty and wartime air defense.

"This award is yet another validation of the tremendous work of our Airmen, their dedication to the mission, and is an example of the highest standards to which they perform each day," said Col. Brian Simpler, 125th Fighter Wing commander. "I tell them they are the best this country has to offer, and this award is the Air Force's confirmation of the exact same sentiment."

The wing effectively organized, trained, equipped and maintained combat-ready forces for rapid deployment and employment

The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award was authorized by the Department of the Air Force General Order 1, Jan. 6, 1954 and is awarded by the secretary of the Air Force to numbered units that have distinguished themselves by exceptionally meritorious service or outstanding achievement that clearly sets the unit above and apart from similar units.
