Deployed and connected: Nevada Air Guardsman visits son overseas Published Nov. 4, 2015 By Master Sgt. Paula Macomber 152nd Airlift Wing Public Affairs SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Sometimes, it's all about timing. Chief Master Sgt. Thomas Glover, a loadmaster for the 152nd Operations Group, slated to deploy to Southwest Asia, for the last deployment of his career found out his son would also be deployed to the same area, at the same time. Army Pvt. Colter Glover, of the 1-87th Infantry, 1st Battalion, 10th Mountain Division, or "Colt" to his father, joined the Army earlier this year and received word that he would be deploying for the first time when he arrived on station at Fort Drum, New York. Father and son agreed to keep in touch in the event they could possibly meet up during their deployments. During the first week of September, Chief Glover received a message from his son that he was in Southwest Asia and that he would be flying out from his location. "Talk about timing," they got a good laugh and Chief Glover said, "This is gonna' be a crazy story." With the help from the 737th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron, Chief Glover arranged to take a short drive to his son's duty station. They ate lunch, shopped at the Post Exchange and "hung out" for about three hours. While checking out Colt's quarters, Chief Glover had a chance to meet his son's commander and first sergeant. The next week, Chief Glover received word that Colt was in the local passenger terminal waiting for a flight. In true Nevada Air National Guard tradition, he, along with Chief Master Sgt. Robert Martinez, went out to the aircraft to give Colt a proper send off and wish him well. "I really cannot express how uplifting it was to get to see my son and I know it helped ease him into his first deployment," Chief Glover said. Chief Glover is due to return early in November. Colt is due to return May of 2016.
