ANG member receives prestigious Texas medal

Brig. Gen. Brian Neal, the commander of the Air National Guard Readiness Center here, presented Col. Michael Ogle, the director of logistics for the ANG at the ANGRC, with the Lone Star Distinguished Service Medal from the state of Texas Tuesday at the ANGRC for his for exceptionally outstanding performance of duty while he was assigned to the 149th Fighter Wing, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Ogle was awarded the Lone Star Distinguished Service Medal for his meritorious service as the commander of the 149th Maintenance Group from Sept. 5, 1999 to March 11, 2011 where his leadership and initiative increased the readiness and effectiveness of his unit while achieving substantial accomplishments for his organization.

"It is an honor for me to present Col. Ogle with this prestigious medal from the state of Texas," said Neal. "His hard work and dedication to his state and our country demonstrates the type of leaders we have in the Air National Guard."

Ogle's focus on safety and improvement while assigned to the 149 FW resulted in more than 17,000 accident-free hours flown and 12,000 sorties culminating with training nearly 160 Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon pilots. Under Ogle's leadership, his group authored 22 Air Force "Best Practices." He was also directly involved with an ANG logistics initiative resulting in saving more than $24 million annually in aircraft engine work.

"I appreciate the recognition for my service to the Texas Air National Guard and am very proud to have served with outstanding airmen who are the backbone of the 149th Fighter Wing," said Ogle. "As the director of logistics, I see the same level of execution by highly motivated airmen in maintenance groups across the Air National Guard. I am honored to be part of such a great organization."

The state of Texas awards the Lone Star Distinguished Service Medal to service members who while serving with the Texas military forces, distinguished themself by exceptionally outstanding achievement or service to the state in the performance of a duty of great responsibility. The Texas Adjutant General is the approving authority for this honor.
