ARLINGTON, Va. - Today is my last day as the 29th Chief of the National Guard Bureau. At midnight tonight, I will relinquish my responsibilities. As I look back at the past four years, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to represent you, engage with you, and tell your incredible story. I will always remember your hard work, courage, and dedication to the mission, no matter when, where, or how you were called to serve. You have a difficult and important job-and you do it well.

It has been a tremendous honor to serve as your Chief, and my wife Kelly and I are forever grateful for your faith and your support. I know the Guard will continue to do great things. Our organization has developed incredible leaders at every level who are ready to take on the challenges and opportunities that start tomorrow. Our Nation and our communities are fortunate to have such Soldiers and Airmen-and the families that support you-and I am proud to have served with you.

We have a duty to serve, in and out of uniform. Though my time in uniform has come to an end, my support for our Nation and our National Guard will continue. I will forever be a fierce advocate for our Soldiers, Airmen, and National Guard families, and will forever remember and share our National Guard story. Thank you for everything you do to remain "Always Ready, Always There!"

Sincerely,
Daniel R. Hokanson
General, U.S. Army
