FLANG Weather Experts Continue Winning Streak

JACKSONVILLE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, FL -- The Florida Air National Guard's 159th Weather Flight was recently named 2022 Outstanding ANG AWS Weather Flight of the Year and the 131st Training Flight received the 2022 Outstanding ANG SWC Unit of the Year. For the 159th WF, this recognition comes on the heels of their 2021 and 2022 wins of NGB’s Thor’s Forecast Challenge, reinforcing the precision and expertise they bring to the battlefield. The FLANG also took home individual awards in the following categories:

  • Maj. Matthew C. Tanner, 159 WF, FLANG 2021 Outstanding ANG AWS SWO of the Year
  • SMSgt. J. Garrett Palmer, 131 TRF, FLANG - 2021 Outstanding ANG SWC SNCO of the Year
  • MSgt. Kyle A. Haynes, 131 TRF, FLANG - 2022 Outstanding ANG SWC SNCO of the Year

The 131st TF is the sole meteorological technical school for all Army and Air Reserve component weather personnel while the 159th WF trains wartime-ready teams to provide high-quality meteorological services to national, state and local missions. Both units are organized under the recently activated 125th Regional Support Group based at Camp Blanding Joint Training Center.
