TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Air National Guard Air Force Reserve Command Test Center (AATC) hosted the annual Air Reserve Component (ARC) Weapons and Tactics Conference (WEPTAC) here at the Morris Air National Guard Base Oct. 24 through Oct. 28. The event is hosted each October in Tucson, Ariz., and is an ideal venue for the warfighter and tactician to come together and identify critical capability gaps in the ARC.

Throughout the weeklong conference, warfighters analyzed theater operational plans, intelligence reports, and existing joint all-domain capabilities to determine what may be asked of them should a conflict arise in the future. Working from the target backwards, tacticians determined and prioritized capability gaps that exist and helped match industry partner solutions to those gaps. At the end of the week, reports were delivered that are used to publish an annual modernization book, which lists the capability gaps that the ARC will look to fill. This ‘Mod’ book, as it it’s endearingly referred, drives what capabilities will be tested, validated, and ultimately delivered to the warfighter.

WEPTAC attendees also had the opportunity to attend “Industry Nights,” where they met with industry partners for open discussions and an occasion to interact with potential solutions for capabilities that have been identified in ANG and AFRC modernization publications. Several attendees noted that having a close relationship between tacticians, operational testers, warfighters, and industry partners accelerates the identification of capability gaps and fielding solutions, which is key in ARC WEPTAC’s success.

AATC Headquarters is a tenant unit to the Air National Guard’s 162nd Wing located at the Morris Air National Guard Base in Tucson, Ariz., but an entity which reports to both the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve. “We’re honored to host AATC at the Morris Air National Guard Base,” said Brig Gen Jeffrey Butler, 162nd Wing Commander. “They play a big role in making our United States military a more lethal, innovative force in a non-bureaucratic way.”
