PEASE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, N.H. --

The National Guard Bureau’s top general paid a visit to the 157th Air Refueling Wing, May 27.

Gen. Jospeh Lengyel, the 28th Chief of the National Guard, landed at Pease aboard a D.C. National Guard C-40 aircraft. The visit was part of a tour to learn about the role state Guards are playing in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lengyel was met planeside by Maj. Gen. David Mikolaities, New Hampshire National Guard Adjutant General, Brig. Gen. Laurie Farris, NHNG Assistant Adjutant General for Air, Col. John Pogorek, 157th Air Refueling Wing Commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Erica Rhea, 157th ARW Command Chief.

After disembarking his jet, Lengyel took time to thank several Pease Airmen for their recent contributions to the mission and presented them each with his personal challenge coin. Pease aircrew, crew chiefs and boom operators then provided the general with a tour of the KC-46 Pegasus, showcasing a number of the planes features and capabilities, including the flight deck, the air refueling operator station and the cargo area.

Following the aircraft tour, Lengyel and Mikolaities boarded an Army National Guard HH-60 Black Hawk helicopter to fly to Concord, where the NGB chief received briefings on the role NHNG is playing in the state’s response to the COVID-19 response.

Lengyel returned to Pease several hours later and then departed the base aboard the C-40 he arrived on.
