The challenge, held as part of the 21st Air Force Marathon, Sept. 16 at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, pits teams from the Air Force’s Major Commands against one another to encourage physical fitness.

“The MAJCOM challenge is an integral part of the Air Force Marathon,” said race director Rob Aguiar. "It’s a chance for runners from across various commands to compete and promote physical fitness."

The winning ANG team was composed of full marathoners Col. Christan Stewart, Chief Master Sgt. Eric Schuffert, Technical Sgt. Jonathan Peck and Master Sgt. Krystalore Crews, as well as half marathoners Lt. Col. Kimberly Riggs, Maj. James Munnis, 1st Lt. Cody Bohachek, Command Chief Master Sgt. Ed Walden, Technical Sgt. Daniel Kallay and the Women’s Overall Half Marathon Winner, Technical Sgt. Emily Shertzer. This was Shertzer’s second Air Force Half Marathon win in a row. Crews took the award for top military female marathon finisher.

The team registered a combined time of 22 hours, 3 minutes and 25 seconds. Second place again went to Air Combat Command with a combined time of 22 hours, 21 minutes and 10 seconds. Air Force Space Command earned third place honors with a combined time of 23 hours, 27 minutes and 16 seconds.
