ANGRC honor our veterans

JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. -- The first sergeant formed up the Airmen and called the formation to attention. This is how the morning began for more than 500 members of the Air National Guard Readiness Center at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland. Airmen and civilian members gathered for morning reveille Nov. 7 to recognize and honor veterans. Brig. Gen. Michael R. Taheri, the commander of the ANGRC, spoke about the history of Veterans Day and the sacrifice of all our veterans, past and present. He also thanked all those who have served and continue to serve our nation.

World War I, also known as "The Great War" came to a close June 28, 1919, with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. The fighting however had ceased seven months earlier with an armistice between the Allied nations and Germany that went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

Nov. 11 is set aside each year to honor all of those who have served the United States in uniform. This is a day when Americans of all backgrounds come together to celebrate the men and women who have fought to keep the United States strong and free.

For those who served and those still serving, Veterans Day is a time to reflect on personal experiences and to acknowledge the enduring bonds that have been developed. Every generation has faced many challenges. Men and women who have served in the Armed Forces are united by their common duty and uncommon courage during those challenging times. From the men and women at the ANGRC, thank you to all veterans for their dedication, sacrifice and service!
